My sudden plans - last Sunday - to make a full, if decidedly unimaginative, Thanksgiving dinner technically started with a trip to the grocery store that day, I guess. But tonight the cooking officially commenced. The schedule for the rest of the dishes was prepared. Duties were assigned. The turkey was named - Theodore, this year. New Lady Gaga was downloaded. Bring it.

Next year, try the standard Joy of Cooking recipe for cranberry/orange relish that my grandmother always made. I now make it every year. It couldn't be easier, and it is delicious.
One whole orange, peel included, cut into 1/8ths.
One 12 oz bag fresh cranberries.
One cup sugar.
Put 1/2 the orange and 1/2 the cranberries in a food processor and process until finely chopped (but not pureed). Repeat with the second half. Thoroughly mix in the cup of sugar and refrigerate. that's it.
The key is to make it at least two days ahead of time, and as much as two weeks. It needs time for the flavors to meld.
